The Surprise Party - demo
The Surprise Party were an "emo" band from from Austin circa 1997. Containing a member of Kodiak and a current member of Hello Lovers, The Surprise Party were together for a very short time playing only a handful of shows while they were around. In addition to this demo tape, they also appeared on the "There Is A Light" compilation CD which is available here.
Are you fucking kidding me? I can't believe you still have one of those crap tapes! Wow. Those were recorded on (or should I say over) free, professionally released tapes that we nabbed from Tower Records. So, the sound quality is, erm, not perfect. But we were broke and resourceful.
The Surprise Party also featured a member of Anomie and current member of JBe.
Thanks for preserving these tunes. I was in the band, but don't have one of these tapes, or a tape player. It's cool to have them in a digital format. Awesome.
i got a good little message in a bottle from this, thanks mark, i too haven't seen or heard this tape in at least 11 or 12 years. did it still have glitter stars in it? i think the song tittles are as follows: 1. dave hill (for dave hill) 2. slow jam (slow biddy) 3. safe american sweetheart 4. kitty catastrophe
the poem at the end was something shane cut out of a thrifty nickel written by a four year old

Inspired by a facebook thread of people posting mediafire links to their favorite 90's Houston & Austin punk records, I felt like these links should be available for everyone... so I've started putting them (as well as a bunch of other Texas stuff) on this blog.
Please post requests in the chatbox, and i'll do whatever I can to find them. Please also let me know if any of these links go bad, and I'll refresh them.
If you have links to things not yet posted, send them to me and if they're relevant, I'll put them up. If you want to send records to us for possible inclusion on the blog, please drop us an email.
If you are the copyright owner of any of the mp3's posted here and you would like the link taken down, please let me know.
